Herero Folktales weaves three folksongs with what I call “a cohesive rhythmic thread. ” The story of the graceful gallops of the “Himba” herdsman on his horse is punctuated by two lullabies also favorites among the Otjiherero speaking peoples of Namibia. I’ve long been fascinated by dances from Namibia. This piece adapts similar nuance from Herero - Study No. VII from my Twenty-four Studies in African Rhythms, also published by African Music Publishers.
