Original tekst

You Are My Light composed by James R. Day. For SATB choir. Te Deum Series. Sacred Anthem. Medium. Octavo. Published by Roger Dean Publishing. LO.10-2091R. You Are My Light is the final movement of a seven section work for chorus, orchestra, and narrator entitled "The World Come Of Age." Written to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of World War II, this work is based on the writings, imprisonment, and martyrdom of German theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The entire work is based on the hymn tune Vater Unser. Geistlich Leider,1539. As I completed the work, it became more apparent that I had not completely addressed the suffering of the Jewish people. My solution was to add one final movement to serve as a memorial based on -Ani Ma'Am in the 12th century tune often sung by the Jewish people in the Nazi concentration camps. The final statement of this theme is sung concurrently with the Christian theme, Vater Unser, with both joining together in a psalm of David. "You are my light. You are my song. Of whom shall I be afraid.

You Are My Light composed by James R. Day. For SATB choir. Te Deum Series. Sacred Anthem. Medium. Ottende. Udgivet af Roger Dean Publishing. LO.10-2091R.
