B50. for solo viola, and follows the same structureof six short movements based on note rows built around specific intervals, together with a unifying featureof a modal Scottish style folk melody. The relevant intervals are. -1. major 3rd, major 2nd 2. minor 3rd, minor 2nd3. perfect 4th, minor 3rd 4. tritone, major 3rd5. perfect 5th, minor 2nd 6. major 3rd, major 2nd and major 6thThe sections may be regarded as a parallel to a divertimento. -1. Andante con moto - an expositionary section2. Allegro scherzando - a self-explanatory scherzo3. Poco adagio - an atmospheric section4. Allegro - a more textural section leading to5.
